Chapter 733: A Fellow with Bad in His Bones All along the way back to the Yue family’s estate, a grin plastered on Yan Qingsi’s face.
Those words were so sweet. They were like sweets that melted in her heart, and the sweetness seeped through her marrows and toward the surface. That sweetness did not seem to have the potential to grow pale.
Supper was waiting for them when they went back, prepared by Mrs. Yue.
Days have passed by blissfully; Yan Qingsi had almost forgotten the dark days in the past.
...
Mrs. Yue helped Yan Qingsi to a full-body treatment at night. After they both lay down on the bed, she smiled to herself. “That little brat must hate me now.”
Yan Qingsi wanted to smile, but there was a mask on her face. “It’s all right,” she said, “He will fall asleep in a bit.”
“Qingsi, when are your dramas airing? I’ve watched the trailers a million times already.”
“Probably in August. They’re doing the final edit now. If you want to watch them so badly, why don’t I ask for two episode samples for you?”
Mrs. Yue shook her head. “No need for that. I will wait so I can properly boost your ratings.”
She understood how a drama’s rating greatly affects an actor’s career and growth. That was why she had prepared for this—all of her family and friends had to support Yan Qingsi’s dramas.
Yan Qingsi could not hold in the smile anymore; the mask wrinkled on her face.
She rolled onto Mrs. Yue’s side, holding her arm. “Thank you, Auntie. Once the premiere date is announced, I’ll tell you immediately.”
“Aiya, be careful! Your mask is wrinkled.”
In the room beside theirs, Yue Tingfeng could not fall asleep. He took the phone and made a call.
“Jiang Lai, get back the photos the paparazzi took today.”
“All right. I’ll contact this person you speak of. What if they refuse to sell the photos though? The paparazzi are ferocious when it comes to hot news.”
“Are you insane? You can’t think of any other ways if you can’t buy them? Where did you place your brains?”
“I’m sorry, Boss. My mistake. I know what I have to do.”
If they could buy it, they would buy it. If they could not, they would take it. Life worked like that anyway.
When they worked and did business, they would first be nice. If that did not work out, they would bring out the big guns. If one did not want to make money from the offer, then it should be no surprise that you will come under fire.
Except that... the boss’s tactics in recent years had mellowed out. He was not as devious as before, so Jiang Lai almost forgot that his boss was a fellow who still had... had... bad in his bones.
“Oh, another thing. Find someone to watch over You Yi. Find out where he stays, what he does, who he contacts, what they talk about. I want to know everything.”
“Yes, Boss!”
Yue Tingfeng recalled what Mai Wenjie had said today. “Qingsi’s dramas are premiering next month. No slacking off the promotion. If Mai Wenjie asks for promoting funds, just wire it to her.”
“If she wants an unusually enormous sum?” Jiang Lai asked.
“Give it to her,” Yue Tingfeng said without hesitation. “As long as she uses that money to promote Qingsi, it doesn’t matter how much she asked for. If it goes into her own pockets, she’s as good as dead.”
“All right. I understand, Boss. Anything else, Boss?”
Yue Tingfeng did not reply immediately.
He had subconsciously thrown his weight around Jiang Lai all the time. Did he have the right to simply chat with him?
Did Jiang Lai not know that without Yan Qingsi by his side, he was an insomniac now?
Jiang Lai certainly did not know anything. “If there’s nothing else, I won’t disturb you any longer, Boss,” he continued, “Get a good night’s rest, you and Miss Yan. And... Are you coming to work tomorrow, Boss?”
Yue Tingfeng’s mouth twitched. What a blind idiot.
