Birthday Banquet 12
“Let me guess… you must love me to death,” Qin Chu answered ever-so-calmly.
“Hahaha… what an egomaniac…” Huo Mian burst out in laughter. Qin Chu ever only acted like a child in front of her.
“I actually wanted to say… after everything you did for me today, I feel ten years younger. You brought me back to adolescence.” When Huo Mian said this, her eyes twinkled; she really did feel younger and filled with energy.
“Goddess of Tears, eat your food while it’s hot,” Qin Chu reminded her gently.
Just then, Huo Mian turned around to see the bodyguards sitting in cars outside the restaurant. “Honey, can you make some more for everyone? They all seem hungry, and I feel bad…”
She really thought Qin Chu would refuse. However, he got up and headed back into the kitchen. “Tell them to come in.”
Upon hearing this, Huo Mian immediately waved her hands with excitement. “Come in, everyone!”
More than a dozen bodyguards came out of several cars, walked into the restaurant, and sat down.
“Young Madam, you’re saying that Mr. Qin’s making us noodles?” one of the bodyguards asked, looking dumbfounded.
“No, no, not just noodles. Ramen, actually. They’re delicious, I’m almost done with my bowl!” Huo Mian said proudly.
“Uh, we shouldn’t burden Mr. Qin like that.” The bodyguards were all used to Qin Chu and his iceberg face.
“Don’t worry about it, he’s actually a really good person… he’s just a little quiet. Don’t worry, just enjoy, alright?”
Huo Mian and the bodyguards then chatted about the movie they just saw; they all knew that the Young Madam was personable, so some of the gossipy people even asked about Huo Mian and Qin Chu’s story.
Huo Mian talked excitedly as Qin Chu cooked; from time to time, he would glance at his wife and look at her as she gestured and beamed at the crowd.
He loved Huo Mian so much when she was being a worriless, happy young woman. He wanted to protect her happiness for as long as he could.
After dinner, they didn’t rush home. Rather, Huo Mian asked if they could walk around, since they were so close to 2nd High School. They ended up walking around the campus.
“Honey, I had a great time tonight.”
“That makes me happier than anything.” Qin Chu rubbed her hair.
“The truth is, I don’t need any presents or surprises for my birthday. All I want is to be with you and the kids.”
“I’ll be with you every birthday from now on.”
“But Pudding and Little Bean will get married one day,” Huo Mian said, feeling a little sad.
“Even so, they can still celebrate your birthday.”
“Haha, you’re right. They can bring their boyfriends, it’ll be great.”
“Mhm.” Qin Chu nodded with a smile. However, something weird flashed in his eyes.
“Is something on your mind, Honey?”
“Yeah.”
“Tell me.”
“Mian, do you know how many people I’ve stopped from kidnapping you over the last two months?” Qin Chu suddenly changed the subject.
Huo Mian didn’t respond.
Qin Chu then said, word for word, “36 people, of which 20 were skilled assassins, and the rest were retired mercenaries. They were lurking near the hospital, on your way to and from work, at the twins’ school, and even at Sky Blessing Court.”
Hearing this shocked Huo Mian.
